At the latest Chrome Dev Summit keynote, Google announced the launch dates for their .dev new generic Top level Domain (gTLD). This new extension has been chosen to create a secure domain zone for developers and technology. Google aims and promotes it as the ideal name that’s fits many categories from tools to platforms and programming languages and even blogs. This new .dev gTLD
will be in HSTS preload list by default, making HTTPS required on all connections to .dev websites and pages without needing individual HSTS registration and setup. ICANN announced dot DEV is scheduled to become available to the general public on February 28, 2019, with an early access period beginning on February 19. The history of this domain is short so far. Amazon withdrew their application for the .dev TLD in July 2014, that left Google as the only applicant for this extension. Google domain list keeps growing.
